What to see in Sveti Stefan?
Sveti Stefan is one of Montenegro’s most recognizable and photogenic locations. This island-hotel is located just 9 km from Budva and is connected to the mainland by a narrow sandy causeway about 500 meters long. Even the road leading to it becomes an experience in itself.
The main feature of Sveti Stefan lies in its unique blend of history and luxury. Founded in the 15th century as a fortified medieval settlement, it was transformed into a luxury hotel complex in the mid-20th century. At the same time, the island’s architectural appearance was fully preserved: stone houses, narrow streets, and fortress walls look as if they are centuries old.
Over the decades, Sveti Stefan has become a vacation spot for world-famous celebrities. Members of European royal families, renowned actors, writers, and public figures have stayed here, firmly establishing the island’s reputation as an elite resort.
The beaches of Sveti Stefan are covered with fine pebbles mixed with sand, giving the shoreline its distinctive pinkish hue. The most famous are Queen’s Beach and Miločer Beach — both known for crystal-clear water and picturesque views. The coastline is popular with snorkeling and diving enthusiasts; nearby diving centers are suitable even for first-time divers.
The surroundings further enhance the experience. Opposite Sveti Stefan lies the village of Miločer, with its well-maintained park and relict plant species.
In a nearby olive grove stands Praskvica Monastery, more than 600 years old. Just 5 km away is Reževići Monastery — a quiet, atmospheric place perched on a hilltop with panoramic views of the sea and coastline.
To move freely between Sveti Stefan, Budva, and nearby attractions, a car is the optimal solution. Renting a Volkswagen from Rent a Car (FABER) allows you to stay independent of public transport schedules, easily reach viewpoints, monasteries, and beaches, and travel in a comfortable, relaxed rhythm.
