What to Do If Your Rental Car Breaks Down Outside Montenegro
Travelling across the Balkans in a rental car is one of the best ways to explore the region — Croatia's coastline, Bosnia's mountains, Serbia's cities are all within easy reach. But what happens if something goes wrong on the road far from Montenegro?
We want to be completely transparent with you about what we can do and what falls outside our hands. Knowing this in advance makes every trip stress-free.
Our jurisdiction: Montenegro only
Faber Rent a Car is registered and operates exclusively in Montenegro. This means our direct roadside assistance, replacement vehicle service, and on-the-ground support are available only within Montenegrin borders.
What we can do if you're abroad
We're always reachable by phone or WhatsApp — call us at +382 69 910 111 and we'll guide you through every step.
We'll help coordinate with local services — we can help you find a nearby repair shop or towing company using your location.
We'll handle the insurance side — all our vehicles carry valid Green Card insurance covering Serbia, Croatia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina. We'll send you the relevant documents immediately.
We advise on next steps — depending on the situation, we'll tell you exactly what to do so nothing is missed.
What is outside our control abroad
Important: We cannot physically send a replacement car or a Faber technician to another country. Towing, repair costs, and accommodation in a foreign country are the responsibility of the renter, per our rental agreement. Keep your travel insurance details handy — they often cover exactly these situations.
Step-by-step: what to do in case of breakdown abroad
Stay safe first. Pull over, turn on hazard lights, place the warning triangle if available.
Call us immediately — +382 69 910 111 (WhatsApp available). Tell us your location and what happened.
Call local roadside assistance — in Croatia: 1987, in Serbia: 1800, in Bosnia: 1282.
Document everything — take photos of the car, the damage, and your location.
Do not sign anything without consulting us first.
Keep all receipts for towing, repairs, and accommodation — you may need them for your travel insurance claim.
Tip: Before crossing any border, take a photo of our contact card and save the roadside assistance numbers for the countries you plan to visit. A minute of preparation saves hours of stress.
Cross-border travel: what you need to know before you go
Inform us before crossing the border — it's required by our rental agreement.
Our vehicles include a Green Card (international insurance certificate) valid in neighbouring countries.
You'll need your passport, driving licence, and the rental agreement at border crossings.
